Why "fruit fly" is a misleading name
Fruit is only the most familiar breeding site, not the only one. - Follow the flies. They gather near their nursery, especially in the morning. Let them lead you.
- Tape the drains. Clear tape across each drain overnight tells you which, if any, are breeding.
- Use your nose. The sour smell of fermentation marks the spot even when you cannot see it.
- Clean, then confirm. Deal with each source you find and watch whether numbers fall; if they rebound, another source is still active.
